History
The Early Years
Wolverine Freight System was founded in 1984 by brothers Chris and Mike John, who saw an opportunity to provide high-quality freight services to customers in Windsor, Ontario. They started with just a few trucks and provided cartage and cross-border truckload services between Windsor and Detroit.
Wolverine's reputation as a quality carrier continued to grow as the years went by. The John brothers re-invested into their business, buying more equipment, expanding office space, and building custom computer software. They expanded the reach of their operations by establishing a secondary location in St Catharines, Ontario and by adding domiciles throughout southwest Ontario. Wolverine Freight achieved ISO certification in 1998 and were able to provide service to all of the major automotive manufacturers in the region.
Growing Up
Processes were continually improved and Wolverine hit its stride as a world-class carrier. In 1999 they were recognized by FedEx/GM as Best in Class - Overall Performance, and the awards continued to grow from there. Wolverine has been recognized by its customers as being the best-in-the-business several times, and have maintained their spot as one of Canada's Top 100 trucking companies for almost 20 years.
Wolverine expanded into warehousing in the early 2000's by purchasing over 100,000 sq ft of warehouse space in Windsor, Ontario. Adding warehousing and distribution to its service offering has allowed Wolverine to strengthen its relationship with existing customers, as well as forge new business relationships with non-automotive customers such as Diageo and VistaPrint.
Present Day
Wolverine understands its place as a leader in Canada's trucking landscape and they strive to set an example for all other carriers both in Canada and the United States. Today Wolverine maintains an industry-leading safety rating that can be attributed to their drivers and mainteance staff. They are a US EPA SmartWay member are are consistently investing in Green Technology to further minimize their impact on the environment.
Wolverine has remained committed to investing in technology as a way to improve efficiency, streamline communication, and lower costs. Wolverine offers customers online tracking of their inventory, real-time EDI GPS updates of the location of shipments, and customized reporting to meet customer-specific needs.
